Fear not. There’s protein in fruits and vegetables.
The protein that everyone is concerned about is in all the fruits and vegetables. Yep, don’t that beat all. It’s right there for all your protein lovin’ needs. Some fruits and vegetables even contain all of the 8 essential amino acids. Run that fun fact by your friends and see what they say. Bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, corn, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprout, okra, peas summer squash and kale contain all 8 of the essential amino acids that our bodies need . Broccoli and romaine have more protein per calorie than sirloin steak. Broccoli has 13.2 grams per 100 calories, Romaine has 10 grams and sirloin has 6.7 grams per 100 calories.
Never heard that before? Me neither till not too long ago. This explains how people that eat only fruit (know as fruitarians) can do so well. I use to think that they used some sort of magic to get by. I’m not sure why this hasn’t been widely known till recently. It’s still on the down low because there’s been so much concern that plant eaters don’t get enough of that all important protein. It’s been drilled into us from our childhood days that protein is sooooooo important. Fear has taken control of our eating habits.
I hope that you consider this valuable piece of information when you consume fruits and vegetables in the future. Instead of eating a bit of these little miracles and then moving on to the more popular sources of protein, you might just stick with the fruits and vegetables. Knowing how well these raw food choices take care of you is a big part of being successful at raw food health.
One aspect that I really appreciate since I went raw is that it’s so simple. Knowing that it’s O.K. to eat a large serving of just one food has been liberating. Instead of having to orchestrate multiple items in an elaborate scheme to be satisfied, I can just attack a large amount of one thing and get on with my life. Digestion is fast and easy this way and a lot of energy is freed up that normally would be needed to process the complex food combinations. That bogged down feeeling that comes after eating the old way is gone.
Life doesn’t have to be so complicated. Nature looks after us. It delivers everything and more in these gifts from heaven that we call fruits and vegetables. It’s all there. Ready and waiting. Have faith that simplicity works.
Just eat it.
